Housing Coordinator and Economic Development Planner at City of Atlantic City (1978-80)

Shortly after the first casino-hotel opened in Atlantic City, I was hired to help create economic development and housing opportunities for the City’s residents. I worked, under the then-Commission form of government, for both the Jewish-American Republican Mayor-Commissioner and the African-American Democrat Public Works Commissioner. Both recognized the needs of their respective constituents for affordable housing and both involved me in development policy and planning. I represented them in hearings, community presentations, in negotiations with prospective developers and with staff for other governmental officials. As part of my work for them, I functioned as staff to those elected officials in their respective roles on the Governor’s Task Force on the Redevelopment of Atlantic City.
